Sunday June 10th was the 8 Man division in the 1st annual Monster Energy Classic. Teams from all over the southeast came out to the Jamestown Athletic Complex hoping to secure a national bid to play at the USFTL nationals in January. At the end of the day, the Thundercats would be the ones with the national bid.
In a bizarre set of circumstances, the Thundercats would defeat the RDU Assault in the winner’s bracket final, sending RDU to the loser’s bracket. RDU would defeat the Carolina Eagles 7-6 giving them another shot at the Thundercats. RDU would come away with the first win by a score but would have to double-dip the Thundercats in order to win. Short-handed, with the sun starting to to go down, the Assault opted to forfeit the win to the Thundercats. On the day, the two teams would trade wins going 1-1 against the other one.
Due to the circumstances, the most valuable player was chosen based off the performance for the entire tournament. Corny White of the Thundercats was the main player who stood out, contributing on both sides of the ball.
We had a lot of teams come from Raleigh, a couple from the Triad, and two from Atlanta, it was a great event and we look forward to getting back on the gridiron soon.
Expect a full recap/review on how each team performed in the coming days.
Most Valuable Player: Corny White, WR/DB, Thundercats
